No hot water

No hot water overnight is survivable. No hot water with a family, in winter, or with a leaking or hissing unit is not. We repair and replace most makes, and we carry common units for same day swaps.

Gas leaks

If you can smell gas, do not touch light switches or anything that sparks. Open the windows, turn the gas off at the meter, get everyone outside and ring us. If the smell is strong, call the gas emergency line first and us second.

Are you really open 24 hours?

Yes. A person answers the phone at any hour, every day of the year, including public holidays. You are not leaving a message and hoping. We dispatch a plumber and give you an arrival window on the call.

How quickly can you get here?

It depends where you are and what else is running, but for genuine emergencies in metro Melbourne we are usually with you within a couple of hours and often much sooner. We give you a realistic window on the phone rather than telling you what you want to hear.

What should I do while I wait?

Usually at the front boundary near the water meter, in a small box at ground level. Turn the tap clockwise to shut it off. It is worth finding it now, while nothing is going wrong, and showing everyone in the house. Some properties also have an isolation valve near the front tap.

Where is my water mains shut off valve?

If sewage is backing up inside the house or overflowing in the yard, yes. If a single sink is slow but still draining, it can wait for the morning. The thing to watch is whether multiple fixtures are affected at once, because that points at the main line rather than one trap.

How long does it take to clear a blocked drain?

Most jobs are done in one visit, typically 1–2 hours. A simple blockage close to an access point can be cleared in under an hour. Tree roots, a collapsed pipe, or a blockage deep in the main line takes longer and may need a camera inspection first to find exactly where the problem is. We'll tell you the likely timeframe when we quote, not after.

What if I am not sure it is an emergency?

Ring us and ask. We will talk you through what you are seeing and tell you honestly whether it needs someone tonight or whether it can wait until morning. That conversation costs nothing and we would rather have it than have you sit on a burst pipe.

Will tree roots keep coming back after the drain is cleared?

Yes, unless the pipe is repaired. Clearing roots removes the blockage, but the crack that let them in is still there and roots will find it again usually within 12 to 24 months. For a permanent fix you need the damaged section relined or replaced. We'll show you the camera footage so you can see the condition of the pipe and decide whether to clear it now and monitor, or repair it properly.

Do you handle gas emergencies?

Yes, we are licensed for gas work. If the gas smell is strong or you suspect a major leak, call the gas emergency line first so they can isolate the supply at the street, then call us for the repair.
