A roof plumber is licensed to work on everything that carries water off and away from the building: gutters, downpipes, box gutters, flashing, valleys, rainheads and the stormwater connection. A roofer handles the covering itself, the tiles or sheets. Plenty of jobs cross over and we handle both sides on most domestic work, but anything touching the drainage side legally needs the licence.
If it only happens during or just after rain, it is the roof. If it is constant, getting worse, or happening in dry weather, you have a plumbing leak above the ceiling. We handle both, so either way one call covers it.
Twice a year for most Melbourne homes, usually late autumn once the leaves have dropped and again before summer. If you have gums or anything overhanging the roof, make it three or four times. Blocked gutters are behind a large share of the internal water damage we are called out to.
Yes, and this is one of the most common calls we get. Most retailers deliver the appliance but will not connect it. We check the appliance suits your gas type, confirm the existing line can carry the load, connect and test it, and issue the compliance certificate.
A box gutter runs inside the roof line rather than along the edge, so instead of overflowing harmlessly over the front, it overflows straight into your ceiling. They are common on terraces, warehouse conversions and anything with a parapet. They need clear outlets, a working overflow and a sound lining, and they need checking every year rather than every decade.
Usually yes for sudden storm damage like lifted sheets, torn gutters or a branch through the roof. Gradual deterioration, rust and lack of maintenance are generally excluded, which is where most claims come unstuck. We provide a written report with photos showing the cause, which is what the assessor will be looking for. Check your own policy wording, since cover varies between insurers.
If the rust is isolated and the fall is still right, a repair is the sensible option. Once you have rust in several sections, joins leaking, or the gutter is sagging because the brackets have let go, replacement is cheaper than chasing it around the house for the next three years. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
Yes. We are set up for height work with the right access equipment and safety gear, and our plumbers are trained for it. Two storey jobs cost a bit more because of the access, and that is built into the quote upfront rather than added later.
